The witnesses then testified about the administration's response to the pandemic.

Dr. Walensky said that the CDC had "worked tirelessly" to provide guidance to the public about the pandemic. She said that the agency had "constantly updated" its guidance as new information became available.

Dr. Collins said that the NIH had "invested heavily" in research on COVID-19 and that the agency had "played a key role" in the development of vaccines and treatments for the virus.

Dr. Redfield said that the CDC had "made mistakes" in its response to the pandemic, but that the agency had "learned from its mistakes" and had "improved its performance over time." He said that the administration had "done the best it could under difficult circumstances."

Dr. Marks said that the FDA had "worked diligently" to review and approve vaccines and treatments for COVID-19. He said that the agency had "put the safety of the public first" in its decision-making.

The hearing ended with closing statements from Chairman Comer and Ranking Member Raskin.
